Chicago Police Officer Michael A. Ceriale , Star #17429 was shot on August 15, 1998. Officer Ceriale was working undercover conducting a narcotics surveillance.



During the surveillance, Officer Ceriale was spotted by the offenders who had entered a nearby apartment building and informed one of the gang's "security guards", a 16 year old juvenile. The juvenile exited the building and fired once in the officer's direction from about 60 to 70 yards, striking Officer Ceriale in the abdomen, just below his vest.

Officer Michael A. Ceriale passed away from his injuries six days later. Officer Ceriale was 26 years old.
