From — J. Sterling Morton High School District 201 — On Friday, September 11 Morton students coordinated an event like no other. Our students had the great idea of recognizing police officers at Morton’s football game vs. OPRF for all of the work that they do for our communities.
Police officers from Chicago, Cicero, Berwyn, Lyons, McCook, Forest View, Stickney, Lyons, Cook County Sheriff, and State Police as well as the presidents and mayors of these towns were represented.
The event began with a ceremony recognizing police officers on our new football field. A moment of silence was held in honor of the men and women who have given the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. The moment of silence was followed by a balloon release.
2,500 students and members from the community joined us. All attendees received a free t-shirt honoring police officers.
We’d like to take a moment to thank the police officers who keep our students and community safe. We’d also like to congratulate our students for organizing an incredible event.
