CHICAGO'S FINEST.

A question we are asked quite frequently is; are we really cops?  Only past and present members of the Chicago Police Department are afforded the privilege to join the CPD Pipe Band.  Like our comrades from the the NYPD, this makes us one of a handful of Police Pipe and Drum Bands in the entire world composed completely of its own rank and file.

PARTNERSHIPS.

Partnerships are formed between a number of individuals, agencies or organizations with a shared interest. There is usually an overarching purpose to work together on a range of specific objectives.  The Pipes and Drums of the Chicago Police Department is proud of all of our partnerships established over the years who support our mission to honor our fallen comrades and promote cultural heritage and enrich our community by providing traditional Bagpipe and Drum music.  While our supporters do include all of our family, friends and co-workers — we would like to point out just a few organizations who continue to support our aims and objectives.

OUR TARTAN.

When the band was formed in 1999, we chose the Earl of St. Andrews tartan for its shades of blue reminiscent of our Chicago Police uniforms.  According to the Scottish Register of Tartans - it was designed specifically for the use of Prince George, the Duke of Kent, who bore the title Earl of St Andrews. The tartan is a relatively modern one registered in 1930.
